Jan Kiefer
Jan Kiefer (b. 1979, Trier, Germany) lives and works in Basel, Switzerland. Kiefer’s layered practice expands from experimenting with the traditional boundaries of composition established throughout 20th century Western art. Through engaging with both socio-political and aesthetic issues, Kiefer’s paintings seek to highlight the positive relationship between the history of images and currently established social values, playing with both the kitsch and the quotidian.
Kiefer received his master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts and Design in Basel. Recent solo exhibitions include: Wieder Weinen, HARMONY100, Basel, Switzerland (2024), Lieber Lachen, Museum of Fine Arts Graubünden, Chur, Switzerland (2024), Graustufen, NFS, Basel (2023), Kontraste, Silicon Malley, Lausanne (2022), †, Oreilles Internaxionales, Basel (2021) and Schwarz-Weiss, Union Pacific, London, UK (2019).
