Emiliano Maggi

Emiliano Maggi (b.1977, Rome, IT) lives and works in Rome. The artist works with imagined worlds in which normative representations of identity are disrupted– whether male or female, animal or human. Spanning references from mythological symbolism and Shakespearian theatre to 1970s horror and modern drag, Maggi’s practice is informed by a fascination with the body, and the ways in which immaterial aspects of existence– fantasy, sensuality, the soul– interact with the material figure. Whether through sculpture or painting, dance or music, the artist stretches the boundaries of figuration whilst traversing the mysteries of consciousness.
