Niklas Asker

15 West Central Street

Niklas Asker (b. 1979, Nordingrå, Sweden) lives and works in Malmö. The artist’s work resonates with William Blake’s writing of ‘paying attention to the minute particulars in our world’, which in Asker’s case prevails through phantom shadows or wrinkles of skin. His paintings, whether portraits or depictions of statues from antiquity, are conversations with history and the techniques of the old masters, whilst forging new visual expressions. For Asker, art is a process of excavation.
